About Tasco

At Tasco, our mission is to provide shelter and support to homeless individuals in our community. We believe that everyone deserves a safe and comfortable place to call home, and we work tirelessly to make that a reality.

In Onslow County, children grow up in a safe, stable, nurturing environment.

• Gain an understanding of adverse childhood experiences
• Help children identify feelings and manage emotions
• Create safe physical and emotional environments at home, in school and in neighborhoods
• Prevent child maltreatment by building capacity of parents and prevention partners

In the Spring of 2018, a group of professionals from the City of Jacksonville, Onslow County government, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and other community agencies gathered to answer the questions:

• How do we create a common language and a system in our community to help decrease child abuse and neglect?
• How do we develop a system for families to utilize for prevention and intervention services to include parent education and family support services that are available in our community for all children and their families?

In our journey, we have been assisted by Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina (PCANC) and all the experience of our task force members who have helped pave the way with their wisdom and knowledge in guiding the groundwork for our child abuse prevention task force. 

TASCO’s work was abruptly halted by Hurricane Florence in 2018, which significantly impacted the Onslow County community. In 2019, TASCO reconvened and began rebuilding momentum to continue its mission of strengthening support systems for children and families.

As part of this process, TASCO participated in a readiness assessment with the Positive Childhood Alliance North Carolina (PCANC) to evaluate the community’s capacity to implement a collective impact model. Following the assessment, PEERS Family Development Center was identified as the local “backbone” agency, responsible for coordinating partners, supporting collaborative efforts, and helping guide the initiative forward.

In 2025, Zing Zumm Children's Museum of Jacksonville assumed the role of backbone agency, continuing the work of convening community partners and strengthening collaboration to advance TASCO’s mission. Through this leadership, TASCO continues to focus on building safe, stable, and nurturing relationships and environments for children across Onslow County.
